Breaking Covenants Before The God Of Covenants

Unless you are a Messianic Jew or a Christian that has been taught about covenants, you are unaware of how abominable breaking a covenant before JEHOVAH the covenant-keeping GOD really is! You are also unaware of how this abominable sin has bitterly affected your position and relationship with the GOD you claim to serve. From the beginning the LORD GOD made covenants with Adam and Eve (Genesis 2:16 &17), Noah (Genesis 6:13-18); with Noah on behalf of future humanity not to destroy the Earth again by a global flood (Genesis 9:8-17); and with Abram whose name He changed to Abraham on behalf of his descendants (Genesis 15:18-21). The list of covenants GOD made and His reinforcement of them throughout biblical history is too numerable to list in this post.

A covenant is a solemn, binding vow or promise made between parties. GOD’S chosen people (the Israelites) were taught by Him that the keeping of one’s word was of the utmost importance if they desired to be righteous before Him. The LORD warned them that if they broke the vows they made with Him or their brethren, extremely negative consequences would follow them and their descendants. The Ten Commandments were the Israelites first formal list of laws that formed a covenantal agreement between them and the GOD Who delivered them from Egyptian tyranny. As the nation’s societal structure grew more complex the LORD added other laws He deemed necessary. Israel’s spiritual leaders from Moses to the judges and the prophets understood that a large part of their function was to promote Israelite adherence to the “if” conditions of their covenant with GOD so that they could receive the “then” blessings from Him.

‘Covenant’ is considered an outdated, useless word to 21st century people in general and professing Christians in particular. So-called believers resent that they will be judged by GOD for every idle word they speak: “A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, that every idle word that men speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”  (Matthew 12:35-37, KJV) ‘Idle’ in the Amplified Classic Version of the Bible is translated ‘inoperative’ and ‘non-working.’ How long do you think the LORD will tolerate you making promises to Him and others that are inoperative and non-working before you become a liar in His sight? Proverbs 6:16-19, KJV states, “These six things doth the LORD hate: yea seven are an abomination unto Him: a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that sowth discord among brethren.”

Today the unsaved and the saved prefer to deal in contracts instead of covenants because contractual terms can be altered, broken, or twisted to suit the person with the most vicious attorney. Christians conveniently forget that everything from promising to pick up clothes from the cleaners to standing before clergy and saying “I do” is considered a vow before GOD. Many professing Christians have become contaminated by their love for the world and their words hold no weight either in the natural or supernatural realms.

No wonder the majority of us can’t decree things and see them manifest (Job 22:28), or command unclean spirits to be gone and see them flee (Luke 10:19), or command the mountains of life to be removed and they are (Mark 11:22-24)…our words are light! Most who profess to be believers are ignorant of the existence of Heaven’s Judicial System in which the GOD of the universe presides as the Judge of the living and the dead. They couldn’t care less that the LORD has angels keeping record of every covenant made; their date, time, location, and witnesses present. Salvation is a covenant. Marriage is a covenant. Gentile believers have been engrafted into the covenant of Abrahamic wealth because JESUS died a cursed death to give us access to it (Galatians 3:13).

Read the following verses from Ecclesiastes 5:1-7, KJV: “Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of GOD, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil. Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before GOD: for GOD is in Heaven, and thou upon Earth: therefore let thy words be few. For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool’s voice is known by multitude of words. When thou vowest a vow unto GOD, defer not to pay it; for He hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should GOD be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands? For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear thou GOD.”

Oh boy this passage is loaded!!! First we’re warned to enter GOD’S house reverently, ready to do more listening than speaking, and not to offer up the “sacrifice of fools” which is being presumptuous with our big mouths! In other words, making promises we have no intention of fulfilling…hello? This passage says that foolish people can be identified because their mouths are always moving and they’re always in everyone’s business whether or not they’re asked to be! GOD expects us to fulfill ALL vows, oaths, and promises we make to people since they are ALL made in His Presence. We are to be prepared to put up or shut up! Our big mouths can put all that we are into a compromised position before GOD and man. And the WORD says not to try to wriggle out of the bind our mouths put us in by telling the pastor, judge, lawyer, police officer, mortgage banker, car dealer, landlord, etcetera “I made a mistake…” DO WE WANT GOD TO BE ANGRY WHEN HE HEARS OUR VOICES LIFTED IN PRAYER OR PRAISE AND DESTROY EVERYTHING WE TRY TO ACCOMPLISH??? We that profess to be Christians could all use a refilling by the SPIRIT of the fear of the LORD!

Defaulting on loans, getting no-fault divorces, failing to pay for things we co-signed for, being in arrears on the rent, wearing clothes we paid for with bounced checks and on and on and on! Then we stand in the sanctuary with uplifted hands or make our way to the pulpit to preach, teach, or prophesy…saints these things ought not to be! No wonder there aren’t any miracles, signs, or wonders! How can the LORD entrust us with His supernatural things when we are so despicably low-functioning in earthly matters?

Judgment has already begun in the house of GOD (1 Peter 4:17)! The LORD has prophesied supernatural acceleration, abundant overflow, and establishment in this Hebraic year 5779 (Ayin-Tet), but only for those who have and are walking uprightly before Him. Make no mistake His accounting books are up-to-date and flawless and only the deserving will reap blessings while the rest will reap corruption!

Maybe this post has explained to you why things in your life are going so wrong; because your position before and relationship with the GOD Who is HOLY has been severely compromised by unrighteous living. All is not lost. Acknowledge and confess your sins, change your mind and your ways, and the LORD will forgive and restore you.

DECLARE: “LORD JESUS, I have been weighed in Your balance and found to be lacking! I have been following the world’s way of thinking and behaving regarding vows, oaths, and covenants. I am truly sorry LORD. Please forgive and cleanse me from the sins of (name them). I renounce these sins and the demons associated with them. Tell me what I can do to rectify the messes I’ve made (make a list and do what He says). I do not want You to be angry when You hear my voice. More than Your hand, I want Your heart to be with me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation. Thank You LORD. Amen.”
